Can you discuss whether you feel 1st person present tense writing is passe?
I love this style but have heard that 1st person past tense is the acceptable form of 1st person writing.
Do you think there is there a future for authors who write 1st person present tense?

Amen, sister! Like I said on my blog, I’m glad this eight-year long frat party is over! MLK’s spirit has never been more present. I pray it will stay with our new President as he tries to get the SS America sailing back on calmer seas.
Obama is MLK’s Dream coming to fruition.
