How They Came to Us
It could be said that Kathleen and Joanna met the old fashioned way: through the slush pile. But since nothing is ever that simple, the truth is that Kathleen had received an offer of representation before Joanna could even request her manuscript. Luckily (for Joanna) Kathleen let her know of the offer and Joanna dropped everything to read, what was then called, Detention. Joanna was immediately drawn to Kathleen’s voice and to the dynamic and layered characters Kathleen created and knew she had to offer rep, but with another offer in the mix…well, let’s just say there was a lot of anxious nail biting before Kathleen accepted Joanna’s offer.
Kathleen West is a veteran middle and high-school teacher and semi-professional minivan driver. She graduated with a degree in English from Macalester College and holds a Master’s degree in literacy education from the University of Minnesota. She lives in Minneapolis with her hilarious husband, two sporty sons, and very bad goldendoodle. An experienced marathoner, Kathleen is excited to have recently graduated to the 40-60 year-old division of her local running club.
